SSD Advanced Remote Pilot (RP) Training Course includes progressive advanced flight training designed to enable the RP to understand and implement the safe operation of <25kg UAS utilised within harsh environments throughout the UK Critical National Infrastructure’s many sectors, creating an authentic training experience.
We use a scenario driven approach to enhance realism and support active learning strategies including complex problem solving – training the RP’s in a safe, controlled environment the skills required to operate within dangerous environments and in arduous conditions, building their understanding of the additional considerations and limitations that each threatening environment poses.
The RP will gain valuable flight experience operating using all flight modes including Atti/manual, this will hone the pilot’s precision and skill through numerous flight hours. They will gain vast experience in operating within harsh environments under challenging conditions without the use of GPS stabilisation. Within the training scenarios the pressure will gradually increase through specific changes to the operating environment and, through the addition of emergency scenarios to evoke a stress response forcing the RP into high pressure situations to prepare them for real life operational flying.
The RPs will develop their knowledge of using varying sensors, including Thermal, LiDAR and Zoom capabilities, increasing their understanding of the kit and equipment available to them, encouraging an informed decision of the appropriate equipment to satisfy the desired operation.
As part of the advanced training progression the RP will need to undertake advanced planning considerations understanding the detailed requirements of each specific operation, gaining experience of the planning process when operating within hazardous locations. Considering the specific hazards present, this may include considering required level of PPE, additional personnel requirements, site specific hazards, understanding of sensitivities and restrictions and security issues.
This training is designed to meet the needs of the individual operating within their desired sector, this can include covert/overt security operations, operating at night or over extended distances resulting in the progression and advancement of the remote pilots knowledge, understanding, abilities and confidence in operating within their designated field.
